meet Liz

Liz Carbone is a nonprofit professional with more than a decade of experience helping organizations turn big ideas into practical, actionable, results-driven initiatives that meet real community needs.

Through Home Team Consulting, she comes alongside nonprofits, local governments, and affordable housing developers to create and strengthen programs, build sustainable funding strategies, and improve systems to deliver solutions that last. Her approach is shaped by years of hands-on leadership in fundraising, program design, and community development, with a focus on housing and homelessness. Before launching Home Team in 2024, Liz was the Director of Community Engagement at the Cape Fear region’s largest homeless services and supportive housing provider. She has led multi-million dollar fundraising efforts, launched successful housing programs, built and managed high-performing teams, and developed some boots on the ground software implementation skills somewhere along the way.

In an increasingly transactional world, Liz is known for connecting people and grounding work in true collaborative relationships. Whether she is guiding long-term strategy or jumping in to solve an immediate challenge, Liz brings a solutions-oriented and community-aligned approach that helps organizations move forward with clarity and confidence.

Liz lives in Wilmington, NC and holds a Masters in Public Administration. She is active in several housing-focused organizations, including the Cape Fear Housing Coalition, and serves on the board of the Wilmington Housing Authority, the New Hanover County Library, and Cape Fear Collective. In her spare time, you can find her wrangling her two dogs, at book club, or exploring the natural world with her husband.

I started Home Team because I saw a real need for affordable, reliable support for local orgs who have great programs but limited bandwidth to think big picture, evaluate their work, or improve systems. It is a joy to step into an organization ready to do more and help them bring their vision to life, and it is an honor to be a trustworthy partner that can lend a hand when things are getting sticky.
